What is the Forty & Eight

La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux is an independent fraternal organization of U. S. veterans, more commonly known as the Forty & Eight.

The Forty & Eight was formed in 1920 by American Legionnaires as an honor society, and it is committed to charitable aims.  Membership is by invitation for members of the American Legion who have shown exemplary service.  All Forty & Eight members are veterans of congressionally recognized wartime periods via their Legion membership.

Welcome from the Chef De Gare

Well you are a “Legionnaire”.  Welcome to the ranks. Your service to your country is now complete, or is it?  Have you reached the pinnacle of your service? Not yet.  Now comes “THE” Forty and Eight. An elite group of veterans, who have joined together to honor our country and to serve the community where it is most needed.  You might not be eligible or able to become a member.  Ask a “Forty and Eighter” how to join.  Intestinal fortitude will determine the outcome. To paraphrase the Marines, The few the brave and the successful.
